The ‘American Idol‘ finale is shaping up to be a star-studded affair. Not only will the episode crown the next big pop idol, but it also features performances from Rihanna and now Aerosmith!

Rolling Stone reports that ‘Idol’ judge Steven Tyler will leave the judges table and take the stage on the May 23 results show, which will determine the victor out of contestants Hollie Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez.

The rock legends will perform their as-yet-untitled new single on the show, which may surprise fans of the band, as guitarist Joe Perry has disparaged the series in the past. “It’s his business, but I don’t want Aerosmith’s name involved with it,” Perry said in a previous interview. “It’s a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising. It’s one step above ‘[Teenage Mutant] Ninja Turtles.’” Hey, don’t be dissin’ Leonardo and Co. like that!

Perry distanced himself from his previous commentary, explaining, “It wasn’t about the show — it was about how we found out about it. I was pissed off about that whole thing, but I’ve played on it before and the band is gonna play on it in the last episode of the season to debut the new single. So it’s not about the show, it’s about how we found out about it. It was a bit of a shock and it took us off balance.”

Whatever the case may be, we’re just excited to see them hit the stage to perform their first new single since 2001. It’s about time!
