Like many funny people before her, Amy Schumer has decided to branch out into more serious acting territory. In addition to starring in an upcoming film with Jennifer Lawrence (which the pair co-wrote) and in an untitled mother / daughter action-comedy project, the comedian and actress has signed on to appear opposite Miles Teller in Thank You for Your Service.

Deadline reports that Schumer will star with Teller in the PTSD drama for DreamWorks Pictures, based on David Finkel’s book Thank You for Your Service. The screenplay is being written by American Sniper scribe Jason Hall, who is also making his directorial debut on the project. Schumer joins a cast that also includes Haley Bennett, Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders), Scott Haze (Child of God), Keisha Castle-Hughes, Omar Dorsey (Selma) and Jayson Warner Smith (recent Sundance hit The Birth of a Nation).

Schumer has proven herself a talented actress in her Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer and in last year’s hit comedy Trainwreck, which she also wrote and which does have a tinge of drama to it — just a teensy bit.

Thank You for Your Service centers on a group of soldiers who return home from fighting in Iraq and struggle with the personal psychological and emotional fallout of war, which interferes with their ability to re-integrate into civilian and family life.
