Animal-Rights Group Not Happy With Chris Brown’s Dog Business

Chris Brown is selling pit bull puppies online. The Grammy-winning crooner is offering seven pups for $1,000 each through his website, CB Breeds. While this may look like Brown is doing the right thing by finding the puppies a new home, dog-shelter advocates are not happy with the singer’s new business.

According to the HuffPost, the Los Angeles chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (spcaLA) calls Brown a “backyard breeder” and would rather see him use his celebrity to encourage adoptions through shelters.

“There is no reason to breed and produce more pit bull puppies when there are pit puppies waiting for homes in every shelter in America,” said spcaLA President, Madeline Bernstein in a statement. “The $1000 price tag for a Chris Brown puppy could be better spent money saving the lives of shelter animals.”

Brown’s rep, Maureen O’Connor, insists that the puppy site is not a new side-business for the singer. Instead, he simply wants to make sure that his puppies go to good homes.

According to CB Breeds, the four female and three male pit bull terriers were born at the end of February and come with names like Music, Precious, Jett, Beauty, Pretty, Princess and Fortune. The site claims that the puppies are four-generation performance pedigrees and have been vaccinated and examined by a veterinarian.

The only glaring concern is the PayPal link at the bottom. You would think that Brown would have it set up so buyers would have to be screen first before they buy one of his puppies.

HuffPost reports that shelters from state-to-state are overpopulated with pit bulls because they are often mass-bred to fight and then abandoned when they are uncontrollable. So the spcaLA has a legitimate concern about the singer’s website. On the flip side, Brown is a known dog lover so while his intentions are good, his website may not be the proper solution.
