While there were a lot of tight races at the 2014 Oscars, Best Actor wasn't one of them. Matthew McConaughey, the odds-on favorite and Golden Globe winner, won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in 'Dallas Buyers Club' and that's alright, alight, alright with us.
It was the headline that sent the fanboy world abuzz: Vin Diesel has mysterious meetings with Marvel to discuss an upcoming movie. The word was leaked by Diesel himself on his popular Facebook page, but with precious few details. At the time, all we could do was wildly speculate. Was it Vision? Luke Cage? Thanos?! It turns out it was nothing. Vin Diesel never had a meeting with Marvel; he was just f---ing around on social media, trying to get a rise out of comic book fans.
As you're looking online this month, trying to figure out what movie you should go see at the theater, don't be surprised if you can't find much you really want to go see. A new study reveals that February movies are actually the worst of the entire year.
Just a few months ago, Tom Hanks wondered aloud why he was never cast in a superhero movie. "They don’t ask me and I keep trying … Come on, I can do it. Let me play a bad guy, let me play the bad guy against Batman. I’ll do anything, call me!" he said. And, guess what? They almost did. It turns out Hanks was on a very shortlist of contenders to play Lex Luthor in 'Batman vs. Superman.'
Can't wait for 'Star Wars: Episode 7' to hit the big screen in December, 2015? Turns out you won't have to.
In addition to Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and all the DC Comics superheroes, 'Star Wars' characters will be making an appearance in 'The Lego Movie' next February. We didn't think it was possible to get more excited for this movie.
Even if you haven't seen the schmaltzy 1981 movie 'Endless Love,' chances are you're at least familiar with the classic Diana Ross/Lionel Richie duet it spawned. And, that makes sense. The song was wildly popular; the movie was not (Roger Ebert called it "a narrative and logical mess"). Despite that, Universal has pressed ahead with a remake and...it's about as melodramatic as you'd expect.
Despite many attempts, Warner Bros. has yet to get a 'Wonder Woman' movie made. Marvel has made a movie featuring a talking raccoon with a machine gun before Warner Bros. has been able to figure out how to get 'Wonder Woman' - their third most well-known superhero property - made. It's something that hasn't been lost of comic fans and now Warner Bros. is admitting publicly the lack of a 'Wonder Woman' movie has been a "missed opportunity" and that they "need" to adapt 'Wonder Woman' as soon as possible.
We've been hearing about 'Ted 2' since...well, since the first 'Ted' became a box-office sensation and made $550 million worldwide. But, since then, we've had precious little in the way of actual updates. Sure, everyone - including star Mark Wahlberg and writer/director Seth MacFarlane - want it to happen, but would it actually happen? MacFarlane took to Twitter and let everyone know that it is happening and exactly when you'll be able to see it.
After 'The Lone Ranger' opened to poor reviews and disappointing box office, Johnny Depp was criticized for his recent acting choices. From 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4' to 'Dark Shadows,' many accused Depp of going through the motions, all-too-happy to cash his paycheck to star in whatever Disney or Tim Burton was asking him to star in, regardless of the quality.
In a related story, Johnny Depp is in final negotiations to return as The Mad Hatter in Disney's 'Alice in Wonderland 2.'
Here's a sentence we never thought we'd type: 'G.I. Joe 3' is moving forward at Paramount and Hasbro. It's not that we didn't want a 'G.I. Joe 3' but after 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' was pushed back over nine months amid rumors of a major bomb, we were just beginning to think we were the only ones who wanted a 'G.I. Joe 3.' But 'Retaliation' made a surprising $41 million at the box office and now the 'G.I. Joe' trilogy is about to happen.
Ben Affleck was not nominated as Best Director for 'Argo' (a film that would later go on to win Best Picture at the Oscars) and lots of people thought this was a big problem. But if a former Reagan-era White House Analyst is to believed, Affleck may have an even bigger problem: being hanged for war crimes.
The Oscars are always entertaining (well, maybe not always) and what better way to commemorate the 2013 Oscars than with our favorite animated GIFs from this year's show. And hey, thanks to these Oscar GIFs we have documented evidence of Tommy Lee Jones having a sense of humor!
