Chinese Card Thrower Wants to Break World Record for Cucumber Slicing

This isn’t a still from the newest X-Men movie, it’s the handiwork of a man who hopes to slice a record number of veggies using only a handful of everyday playing cards.

Glory comes in many forms. Someone can be a three-time World Series champion or a Super Bowl MVP; they can invent a vaccine that rids the world of some hideous sickness; they can bring mankind some kind of spreadable, low calorie cream cheese that tastes just as good as the real thing but without all the fat.

A Chinese man named Ye Tongxin hopes to find his glory by joining the ranks of the Guinness Book of World Records, according to The Daily Mail.

The 48 year-old Tongxin has spent a decade training to become the world’s best card thrower. He’s so good at it that he thinks he can set the world record for slicing 18 cucumber in less than a minute. He’s spent two hours every morning trying to slice up fruit and veggies with cards. He is so good that he can actually pierce apples and watermelons as easily as the sharpest knife.

Of course, he still has a ways to go if he wants to break the record. So far, his best effort is a row of 12 cucumbers in just over 47 seconds. We’re sure the Guinness people are willing to wait another 10 years. In the meantime, anyone who comes over to dinner is guaranteed a nice fresh salad.
