Admit it, you’ve watched the Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest every Independence Day and said, “I could compete with these guys.” Really? Maybe it’s time to put up or shut up.

This year, thanks to the first annual Crif Dog Classic, regular guys have a chance to compete against the legendary Takeru Kobayashi in a hot dog eating extravaganza. Kobayashi holds the Guinness Book of World Record records for eating hot dogs, pizza, Twinkies, spaghetti, hamburgers, meatballs and people that think they can beat him.

The Crif Dog Classic is turning to the Reddit community to fill their final spot. So all you have to do is figure out what Reddit is and enter here. The contest will go down (eating pun) July 4th in Brooklyn, NY and will be televised live on CNNSI.com. It promises to provide a kick in the shorts to the well established annual Nathan’s event held in Coney Island.

We’re thinking about putting a “dog” in the race. We’ve been practicing with mini hot dogs. We can eat three hundred in just under five minutes. There are 22 of us competing.

We could probably go faster if we stopped dipping them in Grey Poupon.
