Will Dick Clark Hologram Be Present at ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’?

As the news of the death of entertainment icon Dick Clark begins settling in, some are wondering if the technology that brought Tupac Shakur to Coachella last weekend could be used to allow Clark to appear on ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,’ the show he hosted since 1974. Ace Showbiz notes that many in the Twitter universe have expressed their desire to see a hologram of Clark on this year’s broadcast of the program, which Ryan Seacrest has co-hosted with Clark since 2006.

Twitter user Angelica Pickles wrote, “Maybe we can get a hologram Dick Clark to host rockin’ new years eve. Too soon?” Many of those considering the possibility of a Clark hologram did so at Seacrest’s expense. Mark Walker said, “Not so fast Seacrest! Hologram Dick Clark to host New Years Eve 2013,” while a user simply named Steve posted, “I’d rather see a hologram of Dick Clark than a real @ryanseacrest.”

One user who seemingly opposes the idea of a Clark hologram observed, “Poor Dick Clark had to be the first guy to die after the Tupac hologram.” Another joked, “Dick Clark held out until sufficient hologram technology for New Year’s.”

Seacrest released a statement about Clark yesterday, in which he thanked Clark for his support without specifically mentioning the future of ‘Rockin’ Eve’: “When I joined his show in 2006, it was a dream come true to work with him every New Year’s Eve for the last six years. He was smart, charming, funny and always a true gentleman. I learned a great deal from him, and I’ll always be indebted to him for his faith and support of me.”

Generations of Americans are used to ringing in the new year with Dick Clark, so even if he doesn’t show up in hologram form for the 2013 broadcast, his spirit and memory will surely play a large role in every Rockin’ New Year’s celebration in the future.
