By now, superhero fans have long since accepted that the chances of seeing Spider-Man appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are slim at best. As long as Sony holds the rights to the character, they're going to keep making Spidey movies until the day the Earth stops spinning and the human race quietly fades into nothingness.

At least you'll be able to create your own Spider-Man/Avengers team-up with the upcoming Disney Infinity 2.0, which will include a cool Spider-Man playset. You can watch the super-goofy trailer for it above!

The trailer never lets you forget that Disney Infinity is a game intended for children, but there's nothing wrong with that. With so many superhero video games focused on being grim and violent, it's a nice change of pace to see something so lighthearted. In any case, the loose narrative teased here (the Green Goblin clones Venom) probably makes more sense than the screenplay for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.'

In addition to Spidey himself, the playset trailer teases Nick Fury, Nova, Iron Fist and Venom, which is certainly an odd combination, but isn't that half of the fun of these games? It's one thing to play as Spider-Man, but it's another to play as Spider-Man, a spy, a spacefarer and a martial artist as you battle the likes of Doc Ock and Mysterio. We may not see Spider-Man in an 'Avengers' movie anytime soon, but at least we can make our own movie in this little sandbox.

The Ultimate Spider-Man playset will include Spider-Man and Nova, while the rest of the characters will be sold separately. Disney Infinity 2.0 (and the many Marvel characters supporting it) will hit shelves in September.
