The chore our mothers pestered us to do as kids haunts us well into adulthood.

Yes -- making our beds. It's the youthful equivalent of shaving because it's annoying yet is something many feel compelled to do on a daily basis.

Heck, there's even a contest to see who can make a bed the fastest.

Maybe you do it because there's just something comforting about slipping into a made bed each night. Maybe you do it because it makes your room a little less messy. Maybe you do it because the shrill voice of your mother remains in your brain and you're scared she'll show up and scold you if don't.

But you don't have to do it each day. Maybe you skip it because you're pressed for time. Maybe you skip it because you don't mind a mess, especially in a room that's not generally frequented when company comes over. Maybe you skip it because what's the point, you're only going to roll around on the sheets all over again in another 16 hours.

Whatever your reason, the bed is our haven and we have our own system of how to approach taking care of it.
