The results of a dismal turnout for the Victoria City Council District 1 seat election was close enough that a runoff election is necessary, which is scheduled for August 27th but, early voting began today.

Hours for early voting are Monday through Friday from 8-5 at the Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center at 2805 N. Navarro, and runs until August 23rd. Early voting by mail is allowed until August 27th. Photo ID will be required for this election.

The unofficial results showed Lucy Herrera getting 39.62% of the vote, while Ricky De La Garza got 35.14%. Because neither candidate got over 50%, the rules call for a runoff. The other candidates in the race included Rufus C. Diggs who got 15.09%, and Todd Valdes who received 10.14%.
