So, it all comes down to this. I'm sure that no matter who wins the Presidential election, (and after the dust has settled from the numerous lawsuits over the results), we'll still continue to hear about it for a while, but I guess that comes with the territory. At any rate, the election is today (Tuesday November 8th), and polls will be open from 7am to 7pm. The Victoria County Elections Office reports that 35 polling places will be open on Tuesday. I got in and out in about 5 minutes this morning so, no problems at all. Maybe it's because we had such a high number of early voters in Victoria County, over 20,000 people voted early. At any rate, here are the polling places, and remember, you can vote at any of these locations.

Now you know where to go so, here's what you need to have when you go to vote.

A voter must show an acceptable photo id at the polling place before the voter can be accepted for voting, unless the voter has a reasonable impediment to obtaining one of these forms or the voter qualifies for one of the other exemptions.

  • Texas Driver's License issued by DPS
  • Texas Personal Identification issued by DPS
  • Texas Election Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas Concealed Handgun License issued by DPS
  • U.S. Military Identification Card containing the person's photograph
  • U.S. Citizenship Certificate containing the person's photograph
  • U.S. Passport
    (with the exception of the U.S. Citizenship certificate, the identification must be current or have expired no more than 4 years before being presented for voter qualification

If a voter has not been able to obtain one of the forms listed above and the voter has a reasonable impediment to obtaining such identification, the voter has the right to execute a Reasonable Impediment Declaration and present one of the following supporting documents:

  • valid voter registration certificate
  • certified birth certificate (must be an original)
  • copy of or original current utility bill
  • copy of or original bank statement
  • copy of or original government check
  • copy of or original paycheck
  • copy of or original other government document that displays your name and an address (though an original is required if it contains a photograph)

Exemptions: Voters with a disability may apply for a permanent exemption to presenting photo identification. Voters with a religious objection or voter who cannot present an acceptable photo id due to certain natural disasters may apply for a temporary exemption. Contact the voter registrar.

Provisional Voting: If a voter does not present one of the acceptable forms of photo identification listed above, which is not expired more than four years, and the voter does not have a reasonable impediment ot obtaining one of these forms of idetification, or if the voter does have one of the acceptable forms of identification, but did not bring it to the polling place, the voter may cast a provisional ballot at the polls and will have six (6) calendar days after election day to present a valid form of photo identification in the presences of the county voter registrar.
