Everybody still ‘Wang Chung’s – Sales of 80s music jumped in 2012
If you love great 80s music, you’re not alone. Music sales for the decade of leg warmers and hair bands saw a more than 30% jump last year.
The New York Post recently reported the Nielsen findings and noted that Whitney Houston sold over 100,000 albums the week of her death last year. Michael Jackson’s death in 2009 has continued to spur sales of his songs online as well. Vinyl albums are still growing in popularity as well — sales were up 36% in 2012.
