Melinda Schmidt has been a hugger her whole live. So when the 35-year-old mother of two recently moved to Raleigh, NC, she immediately started missing the parade of embraces she used to get in her smaller hometown.

Melinda decided to do something about this, and since she couldn’t import her friends and family to Raleigh, she started hugging strangers instead. That went so well she dedicated herself to hugging at least one random person a day for a year. Learn more about her 365 days of hugs in the video below.

Melinda says she tries to seek out people who look like they’re having a bad day. When she finds one, and her hug seems to cheer them up, she feels like a “millionaire who’s giving their riches to somebody who really needs it.”

She hopes her quest will help build a community of huggers, and so far three other people have committed to spread the good feelings through random embraces on Melinda’s website Must Love Hugs.

So, now the only question that remains is, Would you hug a stranger?
