To say that the Hurricane Harvey relief fundraising relief drive raised a little money is a serious understatement. What started out with a modest goal in fundraising, quickly grew to a whopping $37 million dollars, and part of that money, $7.5 million of it will be going to 4 food banks including the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, which will receive nearly $1 million.

Feeding America is one of the charities that J.J. Watt's fundraising will give money to, and they have designated our local food bank as one recipient.

Food Bank Chief Executive Officer Robin Cadle said she was overwhelmed when she heard the news. The food bank distributed more than a million pounds of food in September alone because of the hurricane, and as much as 4.3 million pounds this year alone. To put that into perspective, the food bank distributed 4 million pounds in all of last year.
