When NBA player Jason Collins made his landmark announcement that he is gay, who knew it would be so interesting to fans of ‘How I Met Your Mother' star Jason Segel?

It turns out Collins played on the same high school basketball team as Segel. The duo suited up for the Harvard-Westlake Wolverines, as you can see by their presence in this 1996 team photo.

Segel and Collins are separated by Collins’ twin brother, Jarron. The Collins twins would go on to play for Stanford and then in the NBA, while Segel went on to become a Hollywood A-lister, thanks to his roles on the CBS sitcom, not to mention films like ‘Forgetting Sarah Mashall,’ ‘Knocked Up’ and ‘The Muppets.’

And you thought you were cool because that one guy you graduated with actually wound up moving out of town.

Segel went by the moniker ‘Doctor Dunk’ on the court back in those days and once dunked with a shirt over his head. He seemed to know his future was not on the court, though. In an interview, Segel said, "I'm not nearly as skilled a basketball player as some of the other guys. But I have a lot of bravado.”

Teammates may have caught a glimpse of Segel’s showbiz future, too. He reportedly kept everyone on the team in stitches with his impersonations of Arnold Schwarzenegger and, perhaps rather presciently, Kermit the Frog.
