Jennifer Hudson's half-brother Stephen Angelo Simpson allegedly stabbed his estranged wife's boyfriend in Michigan on Tuesday night, Aug. 19.

According to CBS affiliate WWMT, Simpson, 45, arrived at his wife's apartment, knocked on the door and repeatedly began stabbing her boyfriend, identified as Charlie. Police say Simpson, who apparently has a history of violence, stabbed Charlie multiple times, including in the face.

"[Charlie] said someone knocked on the door, he thought he was knocking on the door for somebody, and he started getting stabbed up," neighbor Torrey Hunt told the news outlet. The victim reportedly came to Hunt for help around 3 AM.

"I open the door and see blood everywhere," he said. "He was stabbed in his chin and his chest, he had puncture wounds in his chest and his arms and stuff. … I'm thinking he could die at any minute."

Another neighbor expressed concern that Simpson was looking for his wife, who was home at the time of the incident but hid in the bathroom.

"She locked herself in the bathroom until he left," Detective Adam DeBoer said. "It appears to be an ongoing feud over a woman."

According to WWMT, Simpson has been on probation after several violent incidents in the past -- including assaulting his wife earlier this year. He was arrested in this stabbing incident and is facing felony charges, including attempted murder.

Charlie was treated at the hospital, where he received multiple stitches and was released. He is reportedly expected to recover.

Sadly, this is not the first time that Jennifer Hudson has had to deal with violence in her family. In 2008, her former brother-in-law murdered her mother, brother and nephew. In 2012, he was sentenced to serve three life sentences in prison without parole.

The Oscar and Grammy-winning singer is releasing her third studio album, 'JHUD,' which will drop on Sept. 23.
