Where only a few years ago we saw a Marilyn Monroe biopic featuring Glinda herself (Michelle Williams), Jessica Chastain is now the latest to step into the icon's shoes for the film 'Blonde' (or in her case, perhaps it should be called 'Not a Natural Blonde').

'Blonde,' based on the Pulitzer Prize finalist novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, was announced back in 2010 and has become director Andrew Dominik's passion project. Only now as Chastain's casting been announced, via The Wrap, as the star of 'The Help' (in which she was also a blonde), 'Zero Dark Thirty' and 'Mama' entered negotiations for the part.

While 2011's 'My Week With Marilyn' depicted how Colin Clark documented the tense interaction between the blonde bombshell and Sir Laurence Olivier while the starlet filmed 'The Prince' and 'Showgirl,' 'Blonde' takes us behind the facade to imagine the real Norma Jeane Baker (Monroe). The novel is described as:

In her most ambitious work to date, Joyce Carol Oates, one of America's most distinguished writers, reimagines the inner, poetic, and spiritual life of Norma Jeane Baker—the child, the woman, the fated celebrity—and tells the story in Norma Jeane's own voice: startling, rich, and shattering. This most intimate portrait of Norma Jeane reveals a fragile, idiosyncratically gifted young woman who makes and remakes her identity, ever managing to survive against crushing odds to become the definition of stardom. Bit by bit, she tells her own epic story of how an emblematic American artist—perpetually conflicted and intensely driven—lost her way.

Aside from 'Blonde,' Jessica Chastain continues to land top roles, including ones in Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated space adventure 'Interstellar' and Guillermo del Toro's gothic horror story 'Crimson Peak.' 'Blonde' is another potentially different and exciting character, as Dominik previously described the film to The Playlist, "It's a really sprawling, emotional nightmare fairy-tale type movie ... about an abandoned orphan who gets lost in the woods."

While 'Blonde' doesn't have an official release date, Brad Pitt's Plan B, which helped produce and finance the 2013 Best Picture '12 Years a Slave,' is expected to produce.
