Jordin Sparks Supports NFL Protests During National Anthem With Secret Message
Oh say, can you see…that bible verse inscribed on Jordin Sparks‘ hand?
Without the requisite act of taking a knee, Sparks joined more than 100 NFL players and administrators last night (September 25) in protest against police brutality while singing the National Anthem at the Cowboys vs. Cardinals game. Sparks, an avowed Christian, inscribed “Proverbs 31:8-9″ on her hand, which speak to the following themes:
“8 Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. 9 Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
It wasn’t explicit, but viewers felt sure the doodle meant that she was in support of the protests.
Colin Kaepernick was the first to start the movement when he sat during a performance of the National Anthem before a game in 2016, noting “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way,” according to NFL.com. The movement has since gained traction after President Donald Trump spoke out against the act of protesting.
