Mac Miller's death on Friday (Sept. 7) has sent shock waves through the hip-hop community, and his label, Warner Bros. Records has released a pained official statement in light of his passing.

"All of us at Warner Bros. Records are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news of Mac Miller's untimely passing," It reads. "Mac was a hugely gifted and inspiring artist, with a pioneering spirit and sense of humor that touched everyone he met. Mac's death is a devastating loss and cuts short a life of talent and huge potential, where the possibilities felt limitless. We join all of his fans across the globe in extending our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends."

The impact of Mac's life on the hip-hop community was documented to the extreme when his death was announced. Artists like Chance The Rapper, Earl Sweatshirt, Meek Mill and Post Malone voiced their heartbreak on social media.

Mac reportedly passed away after a friend called 911 around noon on Friday and emergency personnel attended the scene for a cardiac arrest. It is believed that his death was the result of an overdose. A death investigation is currently being conducted at his San Fernando Valley, Calif. home.

Mac Miller, a 2011 XXL Freshman, seemed to truly be hitting his stride musically with the release of his recent album Swimming last month. He was set to begin a tour with Thundercat and J.I.D next month.
