Singer Mindy McCready has been found dead at the age of 37 in an apparent suicide. The onetime country star's body was found in Heber Springs, Ark.

McCready, who hadn't been very active in the music scene in recent years and who was rumored to have had a decade-long affair with famed Boston Red Sox pitched Roger Clemens, apparently shot herself and her dog, according to E! Online.

Her father, Tim McCready, had been staying with her, but left to return to Florida this morning (Feb. 17). A source said she was in good spirits when her dad left and that she seemed fine.

Apparently, looks were deceiving in this case, as neighbors eventually heard gunshots. "She shot herself and the dog," an insider told E!

The singer was in the news recently when her boyfriend, record producer David Wilson, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Jan. 13. He was just 34 and the father of McCready's 9-month-old son Zayne. McCready denied involvement in his death, but her children, including her 6-year-old son from a previous relationship, Zander, were removed from her custody after Wilson's death.

A source told E! the singer was "in a bad state" and that she was "depressed and unhappy" after Wilson's death. She had entered an in-patient treatment facility at the time. In court documents, her father claimed that his daughter slept all day and drank all night, in addition to taking a cocktail of prescription drugs. He also said she was not bathing or caring for her sons.

She left the facility a day after she was admitted and was receiving outpatient care instead. A source said that she was ready to make changes and care for her children at that point.

McCready was obviously devastated by Wilson's suicide. She said that he was her soulmate who "didn't just touch my heart, he touched my soul."

Obviously, and tragically, signs seemed to point that McCready was headed down a dark path. Her family is expected to make a statement shortly.
