Here is a list of what will be closed on New Year's Day courtesy of The Victoria Advocate.

GARBAGE SCHEDULE

Residential trash collection and curbside recycling collection will be picked up as scheduled Wednesday. Garbage collection normally scheduled for Thursday will be collected Wednesday instead. Recycling collection scheduled for Thursday will be collected Saturday. All routes, including yard waste and brush collection, will resume as normal Friday.

Victoria County Landfill and Brush Site will be closed Thursday.

The Garden-Ville Compost Facility will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Normal operating hours resume Friday.

Live Christmas trees will be picked up as yard waste beginning Friday. Only live trees will be collected. All decorations are to be removed prior to setting it out for collection.

The city will not pick up extra recycling during New Year's week. Extra recycling may be taken to the Waste Management Recycling Center, 809 N. George St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of the month.

TEXAS ZOO

The Texas Zoo will be closed Thursday.

CITY AND COUNTY OFFICES

The Victoria Transit will be closed Thursday. City Hall, Victoria City-county Health Department, Victoria County offices and the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission will be closed Thursday. City, county and state emergency services will continue to operate.

All museums will be closed Thursday.

The Victoria Public Library will close at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and reopen Friday. The Victoria College/University of Houston-Victoria Library will reopen Jan. 5.

STATE OFFICES

Department of Public Safety driver's license office and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will close at noon Wednesday and remain closed through Friday. Workforce Solutions-Golden Crescent and Texas Department of Health and Human Services will be closed Thursday. The Victoria Community Health Center will close at noon Wednesday and reopen Friday.

U.S. POSTAL SERVICE

The Main Street post office downtown will close at noon Wednesday and reopen Friday. The James Moody Station will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and be closed Thursday.

FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS

First Convenience Bank will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. First Community Bank, Trust Texas Bank, Prosperity Bank and American Bank will be closed Thursday. IBC Bank and New First Bank will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and reopen Friday. Wells Fargo will close at 4 p.m. Wednesday and reopen Friday. Capitol One Bank will close at 2 p.m. Wednesday and reopen Friday.

SCHOOLS

Our Lady of Victory, Nazareth Academy and Victoria Christian School will resume classes Jan. 5. St. Joseph High School, Faith Academy and all Victoria public schools will resume classes Jan. 6. Trinity Episcopal will resume classes on Jan. 7.

HIGHER EDUCATION

The Victoria College and the University of Houston-Victoria campus will reopen Jan. 5.

VICTORIA ADVOCATE

The Victoria Advocate customer service department will close at 10 a.m. Thursday and resume normal hours Friday. The classified ad department will be closed Thursday. To report news any time, call 361-574-1222.
