‘Ninja Turtles’ Reboot to Begin Production in April?

Ninja Turtles to Shoot in April
New Line

When it was announced that ‘Transformers’ director Michael Bay was going to produce a reboot of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ franchise, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth across the great expanse of the internet. Then there was the title change, removing “teenage” and “mutant” from the equation (at least on the surface). Then there was the script leak and the reveal that the Turtles were now aliens. Then there was the announcement of Jonathan Liebesman as director. To say that fans were unhappy would be an understatement — things got so ugly that Bay had to personally address them on his blog.

But the film is still moving forward. In fact, it looks like it may start shooting in April.

The news comes via Production Weekly’s Twitter account, so please feel free to accept as many grains of salt as you see fit.

The film was actually set to begin production months ago, but various script problems and a skyrocketing budget forced Paramount to put the project on indefinite hold until they could sort things out. Could they have fixed things? Do they have a script everyone is happy with and a budget that sounds reasonable? Hopefully. We don’t know about you, but we’ll take the fact that they delayed the film to fix the script as a good sign. After all, how many movies rush to meet a release date with a crummy script?

Speaking of release dates, ‘Ninja Turtles‘ is scheduled to arrive on May 16, 2014, the same day as the highly anticipated ‘Godzilla.’ Expect one of them to make a move…and expect it to be ‘Ninja Turtles,’ honestly.
