Nothing stops you in your tracks scrolling through Facebook and seeing a heartbreaking story. I ask each of you for prayers for this sweet family. I reached out to Kirk last night and asked him if I could please share his story on our website and he gave me permission. His wife is having surgery this morning so please stop and pray. He told me this is hardest thing he has ever had to go through, but it's nothing compared to what Valerie is enduring.
Here is their story:
Valerie and Kirk reside in Ganado and have 2 kids Hailee and Tyler. Kirk works in the family business and Valerie is a stay at home mom. Life was good in the Fowler house and then one day it got even better. They learned they were expecting! But the surprise didn't stop there. Valerie and Kirk soon found out they were expecting not one, but TWO babies! A boy and a girl. They were ecstatic.
Valerie gave birth via C-section on December 23rd to Lilly and Levi, who came into the world at a whopping 8.2 and 9.3lbs respectively. Perfect, BIG, healthy twins. Impressive, to say the least! The twins have done fantastic. Unfortunately, their mom didn't do as well. During the delivery of the second baby Valerie suffered a pulmonary embolism and had a very close call. She was resuscitated, moved to recovery, and slowly began to regain some strength over the next couple of days. As every mother dreams of she was finally able to hold those precious babies.
Then on December 26th, the day after Christmas, they learned that the fight wasn't over yet. Pre-discharge tests and scans revealed the cause of her embolism, a blood clot in her lung, along with another larger, life threatening clot in her Vena Cava that would go straight to her heart should it become dislodged. As a mother of four with twins only days old, who she has only held a couple of times, was devastated. She was transferred from the birthing center to a larger hospital by ambulance and admitted to the ICU. There she spent a very difficult couple of days waiting on test results and celebrating her 30th birthday. Ultimately a specialist determined that she would need to be flown via Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX where a cardiothoracic surgeon would remove the clot surgically. Her husband and their mother are there with her. Thank GOD that family and friends are chipping in around the clock to care for the two older children and the newborn twins at home. They are all doing very well, but the big kids are anxious to have Mom home and I'm sure the twins would just like to get to know her. As she would them.

With three different hospitals/facilities, an ambulance, a helicopter, two surgeries, CT scans, cardiothoracic surgeons, and inpatient care for her and the twins already on the tab, you can only imagine what medical bills might look like, even with insurance. Her sister Jeanette has set up a go fund me account to help defray the medical cost. First and foremost she ask that you pray to God for full and complete healing in HIS holy name. And secondly, you can support their family by making a donation.
