We are highlighting individuals in our community who are doing random acts of kindness. At this time of year we all get too wrapped up in the hustle and bustle to take a moment to make someone’s day a little brighter.

Ashley Pall nominated Joy Walker. She has given much to our community.  Joy is a retired daycare owner.  These days, she is one of the most active CASA volunteers we have in Victoria. A CASA is a Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer in the community that acts as a guardian ad litem and a voice for children involved in CPS cases. These kids have been removed from their homes and placed with other family, friends or foster families.  They are going through a large amount of transition after sometimes experiencing a great deal of abuse or neglect. CASA volunteers like Joy give their time and their love to these kids and advocate on the kid's behalf to the attorneys involved, the judge, the caseworkers and anyone else relevant to the case. CASA volunteers spend a LOT of time on just one case but Joy volunteers on so many that Ashley has often teased the CASA staff that they might as well just give Joy a job! Nevertheless, Joy gives hours of her time for free and isn't afraid to speak her mind in court for the benefit of her kiddos. Ashley loves working with her, even when they don't agree. She is an angel in our community and a soldier for children. We here at Townsquare Media gives Joy kudos for all that she does!
