License to trill — Ed Sheeran says he's had a James Bond theme song ready to go for some time in the event the team behind the iconic film franchise ever asks him to put forth a tune.

In an interview with Ireland's Late Late ShowSheeran said should 007 ever need a new soundtrack, he's more than prepared to step up.

"With Bond, I've actually had a theme tune written for about three years, just in case," he said, but noted he's keeping the title secret. "I'm not going to say 'cause someone might steal it, but it's good."

Sheeran says it's typical of him to write songs well in advance, and long before opportunities even present themselves. For example, his recent collaboration with Eminem, "River," was something Sheeran had in the can for years...again, just in case.

"When we did a song together, I had the song planned," he said "So it's the same for Bond, if ever I'm called, I'll be like, 'All right, there you go.'"

In recent years, the distinction of performing a Bond theme song has become a pop music rite of passage of sorts. Adele, Sam Smith, Alicia Keys, Madonna and Sheryl Crow have all delivered some of the franchise's most recent tracks.
