She has a new album and stars in the current movie 'Monte Carlo.' What's next for Selena Gomez? If 'Sex and the City' author Candace Bushnell has her way, the teen star's future could include a film prequel to the hit franchise.

In an interview with the Daily Caller, Bushnell said, "Casting is like kismet. I’m going to get into trouble for this, but I was looking at some pictures of Selena Gomez today and thinking 'she’d make a really good young Charlotte.' She’s so pretty. I was like … gosh, wouldn’t she be great? Am I right or wrong? I’m not good at this. If I say something like that, then the next thing I know, people are like, no!"

Bushnell has written a pair of 'Sex' prequel novels so far, and although there aren't any firm plans for film adaptations yet, the first two movies made enough money that it isn't hard to imagine a studio trying to dial back the clock on the franchise -- especially with younger, cheaper versions of the original cast. And who knows? This might be just the role to help Gomez prove she's more than the Disney-stamped star of 'The Wizards of Waverly Place.'
