Depressed Fathers Can Cause Behavioral Issues in Kids — Health Check

A study of 20,000 US families found kids with fathers suffering from depression are more likely to have emotional and behavioral problems than other children.

Michael Weitzman at the New York University School of Medicine, who authored the study, said these findings are especially important at a time when unemployment is high and some military dads are returning from Afghanistan and Iraq with emotional wounds.

Cute Kids Breakdance for American Apparel’s Mesmerizing New Ad [VIDEO]

Breakdancing gorilla, step aside. We’re all about breakdancing kids now — namely Jalen Testerman and Lil’ Demon, the stars of a new American Apparel ad directed by photographer Tony Kelly. Both are well-known B-boys: in addition to their many live performances, Testerman appeared on ‘Ellen’ at the tender age of six and Lil’ Demon (née Angelo Baligad) had the same honor at seven. We could watch these kids break (and mug for the camera) on a downtown LA rooftop for hours on end.

‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ as Told by a Two-Year-Old Boy Is Pure Joy [VIDEO]

Who loves ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’? Two-year-old Dalton does. A lot.

Dalton’s aunt (who might be the best aunt ever) captured the littlest storyteller reciting his favorite fable, and the real magic doesn’t happen in the story — it happens in the resulting video.

It’s Summertime!

In case you didn’t know from the 100 degree temperatures, it’s Summer time!! For me that means all 3 of my children are at home, for the most part, 24 hours a day. This can be good and bad.

Some of the things I love about Summer include staying in bed until after 8 a.m. Granted, I usually don’t sleep past 6:30, but I do get to lie in bed and snuggle with my babies and try to catch an extra 10 minutes of sleep while they watch cartoons! I also love going swimming. It’s one of the only ways to let the kids expend some major energy while keeping cool and it also usually also guarantees a really good naptime!

Mom and The Easter Bunny

My very practical 5 year old son thinks that the story of the Easter bunny is utterly ridiculous. He doesn’t buy the whole "bunny-bringing-candy-filled-eggs" thing at all.

He’s a very logical little boy and he informed me that there was no way a bunny lays eggs and then hides them for little children to find. His exact words were, “Mom, bunnies aren’t interested in eggs or kids. They are worried about carrots!”

Tyler then informed me that he thinks the eggs come from my closet because he’s pretty sure he saw some there! Oops! I guess Mom needs to find a better place to hide them!

Mom’s Work is Never Done – Kids and their Birthdays

Having 3 kids, we’ve planned a few birthday parties. For some, we have gone all out and for a few it has just been a small dinner with close family.

My daughter’s birthday is on Christmas Eve so it’s always tricky to try and plan her party. Do we do it before Christmas or after Christmas? Do we invite all her classmates even though it’s so close to Christmas? One year she decided she wanted a luau themed party complete with swimming. That year we did a ‘half’ birthday. She had a party in June at a swimming pool. While that was a lot of fun, come December, she wanted another party!

Kids Say (And Do) The Darnedest Things

As a mom, you love your kids unconditionally, but they sure can embarrass you sometimes! Just the other day, standing in line at the checkout at HEB, my Bowen, who is 2, pointed to a bearded man standing behind us and YELLED, “That man looks like a billy goat! That billy goat STINKS!”

Talk about wanting to run away! I was so embarrassed and couldn’t even turn and walk in the other direction because I had all my groceries laid out on the belt and was ready to check out. To add salt to the mortified wound, Bowen then asked to have a chocolate bunny at the checkout. I told him no and that too much candy would put holes in his teeth. He pointed to the checker and said, rather loudly, “She has holes in her teeth!” I couldn’t get out of there fast enough! To the man with the beard and the checker, I am so sorry that my 2 year old has not learned better manners!

How Moms Keep It Together

My kids are always saying funny things. If you are my friend on Facebook, I’m sure you’ve seen me quoting them from time to time.

The idea for this blog comes from my 5 year old son. He is my rambunctious child
