An old-fashioned ice cream parlor and diner called Holsten’s Brookdale Confectionary in Bloomfield, NJ became an impromptu gathering place for fans mourning the loss of actor James Gandolfini, who died of an apparent heart attack on June 19.

Holsten’s is where the final scene of ‘The Sopranos’ was shot — you remember, the one with the ambiguous ending that faded to black and made show devotees super angry?

So in honor of the actor, the restaurant’s owner marked the table where that scene was shot with a “reserved” sign and a plaque reading, “This booth reserved for the Soprano family.”

Gandolfini was a New Jersey native, born and raised in Westfield, and he graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick in 1983. He was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2004.

A proponent for the Garden State, Gandolfini once remarked that it was “an exceptional place to grow up.”

“I have gotten to know Jimmy and many of the other actors in ‘The Sopranos’ cast and I can say that each of them are an individual New Jersey treasure,” said NJ Governor Chris Christie of Gandofini’s passing. “[My wife] and I express our deepest sympathies to Mr. Gandolfini’s wife and children, and our prayers are with them at this terrible time.”
