For the second consecutive year, the University of Houston-Victoria softball team has earned a berth into the NAIA National Championship Opening Round.

The Jaguars were one of seven teams to earn an at-large berth to the four-team double-elimination tournament which will take place May12-14. The Jaguars will be headed to Montgomery, Ala., as the second seed to participatein this year's event and will face No. 3 seed Indiana University-Southeast. The other two teams in the Auburn Montgomery bracket are top-seed Auburn Montgomery and No. 4 seed Bryan (Tenn.).Montgomery is one of 10 locations that will be hosting one of the Opening Round tournaments. The winner from each tournament advances to the 34th annual NAIA Softball World Series in Columbus, Ga., from May 23-29.

Last the Jaguars headed to Lubbock for their opening round tournament and reached the final before falling to host Lubbock Christian after forcing a second and decisive game with the Chaparrals. After falling 9-3 to Friends University in the opening game, the Jaguars then beat Northwood 6-4, avenged the Friends loss with a 9-7 winto reach the championship where they defeat a then unbeaten Lubbock Christian 5-1.It is the third straight year and the fourth in seven years for the Jaguars to advance to the NAIA National Championships in softball.
