The results of a dismal turnout for the Victoria City Council District 1 seat election on Saturday was close enough that a runoff election is necessary, and that is scheduled for August 27th.

According to a report in the Victoria Advocate, out of 8,060 eligible voters in the district, only 424 people actually showed up to the polls.

The unofficial results showed Lucy Herrera getting 39.62% of the vote, while Ricky De La Garza got 35.14%. Because neither candidate got over 50%, the rules call for a runoff. The other candidates in the race included Rufus C. Diggs who got 15.09%, and Todd Valdes who received 10.14%.
