What Are the Best and Worst Cities in America for Heart Health?

Do you remember that episode of Seinfeld where a hypochondria-fueled George Costanza thinks he’s having a heart attack after watching a segment on PBS called “Coronary Country”? Well, maybe George had a point. It turns out there are plenty of reasons to be fearful of heart disease, the leading killer of people in the United States.

Recently, the folks at Men’s Health set out to find exactly where in America the dreaded heart disease resides the most. To do this they looked at 100 cities and ranked them based on information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including statistics on smokers, exercise, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes. Air-quality statistics from the Environmental Protection Agency were also considered.

It looks like if you want to avoid having a heart attack, a move to San Francisco might be in order, as it topped the list for being the best city in America for maintaining heart health. It received an A+.

However, if you happen to live in the worst city in America for heart health (Philadelphia), don’t say you were never warned.
