According to police, Rodriguez was found shot to death alongside her boyfriend, who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The lack of forced entry into her dorm room suggests that she may have known her assailant, though the exact nature of their relationship remains under investigation.

RODRIGUEZ REGARDED AS 'BRIGHT' AND 'COMPASSIONATE'

Rodriguez, a Maryland native who transferred from the Community College of Baltimore County, was a beacon of light within the Rice community. As the deputy parliamentarian of the Rice Student Association and a peer academic advisor at Jones College, she was admired for her leadership and dedication. Her former colleagues and friends at CCBC remember her as a compassionate and assertive individual who significantly contributed to building a supportive campus environment.

"The ideas she brought here to build community and get students engaged and feel like they were part of a family... was amazing," said Crissy Hoffman, assistant director of student engagement.

"She was a bright and compassionate young woman who touched the lives of everyone." said Renuka Purimetla, a first year experience coordinator.
