Adele Visits London’s Grenfell Tower After Fire Kills Dozens
Adele didn't need to send her love — she showed it, herself, Wednesday night (June 14) when she visited a London neighborhood that had been devastated by a lethal fire.
According to People, Adele was on hand at the site of the massive Grenfell Tower fire, which left nearly 20 dead and injured almost 75 (casualties are expected to rise). She and husband Simon Konecki traveled around the Notting Hill neighborhood and offered support, hugs and comfort to those affected by the flames. A report said she traveled up and down streets asking if anyone needed any kind of help.
The fire broke out in the 1970s-built, 24-story structure Tuesday night. The cause of the flames has not yet been determined but the BBC reports that investigations are looking at the cladding on the outside of the building as a potential cause of the fire's quick and decisive spread. The site says the addition of cladding in 2015 had a plastic core that was more flammable than an alternative.
Prime Minister Theresa May has since called for a thorough investigation, according to The Independent.
"When I went to the scene and spoke to the emergency services, they told me that the way this fire had spread and took hold of the building was rapid, it was ferocious, it was unexpected," she said. "People deserve answers. The inquiry will give them."
