‘Artemis Fowl’ Finally Comes to Big Screen in First Trailer
The first Artemis Fowl novel by Eoin Colfer was published in 2001 and pretty much from that moment on, someone in Hollywood has been trying to make a movie out of it. The Weinstein Company had the material for a while and developed many drafts, which never quite panned out. A few years ago, the young-adult series wound up at Disney who were able to put together a production. It’s by noted Thor and Murder on the Orient Express director Kenneth Branagh, with a cat that includes Josh Gad and Judi Dench.
The first trailer for the film, which shows off some strange visuals from a curious fantasy world is above. Here is the official synopsis:
Directed by Kenneth Branagh and based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, ARTEMIS FOWL follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance. The film stars Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Tamara Smart, Nonzo Anozie, with Josh Gad, and Judi Dench. Judy Hofflund and Kenneth Branagh are producing with Angus More Gordon and Matthew Jenkins serving as executive producers. The screenplay is by Conor McPherson.
A battle of strength and cunning? In this economy? Dude, good luck Artemis. Artemis Fowl opens in theaters on August 9, 2019.
