Ashton Kutcher Testifies in Alleged Serial Killer Case
Ashton Kutcher had to testify in court in an alleged serial killer case.
The actor took the stand on Wednesday morning (May 29) to give his testimony in the trial of alleged serial killer Michael Gargiulo, who is accused of murdering his friend, Ashley Ellerin. Kutcher recalled meeting the young woman through a friend and invited her to join him at a Grammy Awards afterparty back in 2001.
According to ET, he stated he spoke to Ellerin at around 8:30 p.m on the night of their date and when he called her to let her know he was on his way to pick her up, she didn't answer her phone. He arrived at her home at 10:45 p.m, knocked on the door, but there was no answer again. The That '70s Show alum said he then looked through a window, tried to "jiggle the doorknob" and looked through a second window before leaving.
"I thought it was odd that lights were on and she wasn't there," he testified, adding that he also noticed there was red wine spilled on the carpet. Police later confirmed it was actually blood, not wine.
Kutcher said he didn't find this strange because Ellerin had had a housewarming party a few weeks prior. However, when he found out she had been murdered, he panicked and immediately contacted authorities.
“I remember the next day after I heard about what happened and I went to the detectives and said, ‘My fingerprints were on the door,’ and I was freaking out,” Kutcher recalled.
Gargiulo, also known as the Hollywood Ripper, stands accused of entering the 22-year-old’s property and stabbing her 47 times. He's also charged with the 2005 murder of Maria Bruno and the attempted murder of Michelle Murphy.
