Bird Flu Found In Chickens At Massive Texas Facility
You might need to prepare for price hikes in eggs again after a massive bird flu outbreak has temporarily forced a Texas facility to close.
2 LARGE FACILITIES AFFECTED
Cal-Maine Foods, one of the largest fresh egg producers in the country, detected bird flu in chickens at 2 of its facilities in Texas and Michigan. Over 1 million chickens had to be killed due to the shocking discovery.
The company stated, "Nearly 1.6 million laying hens, 337,000 pullets, about 3.6% of its total flock, were destroyed after the infection, avian influenza, that was found at a facility in Parmer County, Texas."
Cal-Maine Foods has shut the facilities down and working to get both up and running and creating plans and strategies to manage and prevent future outbreaks.
HOW IS THIS GOING TO EFFECT EGG PRICES?
The company insisted it is working with other egg producers to help alleviate any disruption for its customers. However, don't be surprised when you notice a price hike on your favorite dozen eggs, remember when eggs were over $6 a dozen not too long ago?

ARE EGGS SAFE TO EAT RIGHT NOW?
According to Cal-Maine Foods, there are currently no known risks associated with any of its eggs that are currently being sold. However, just one day prior, in a separate incident, state health officials made a startling announcement. For the first time in human history, 1 person had been diagnosed with bird flu after being in contact with Texas cows presumed to be infected. However, they reassured the public that risks remain low.
