Remember Bruce Springsteen‘s video for his 1984 hit ‘Dancing in the Dark” that featured Springsteen pulling a then little-known Courteney Cox onstage and dancing with her? Recently unearthed footage shows a different — and more literal  — concept for the song.

The footage shows several takes of a video featuring the Boss dancing in the dark by himself. He runs through the song three times, improvising some dance moves as he lip-syncs, while saxophonist Clarence Clemons strolls into the scene to play the sax solo at the end of the song.

Springsteen’s wearing a white sleeveless T-shirt, a dark headband and dark suspenders, while Clemons is in a sharp red suit. How’s Springsteen’s dancing? He’s not bad, but, shall we say…Prince is probably not worrying about the competition.
