Cardi B Explains Why She Named Her Daughter Kulture
Cardi B welcomed her and Offset's baby daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus into the world this week, and of course, fans want to know what inspired the infant's name. The "I Like It" rapper offered an explanation on Wednesday (July 11) in a typically cheeky Instagram post.
"Kulture ! Anything else woulda been basic," she wrote in the caption for a nude portrait of her still-pregnant, adding, "Okrrrrrrruuu!"
The fact that the post is soundtracked by the Migos song "Higher We Go" from Culture II winks at theories that Kulture is in part a reference to the rap trio's album titles, Culture and Culture II. During an April appearance on The Ellen Show, Cardi credited Offset with coming up with the idea, after all. Still, it's clear she digs it. As for the middle name, Kulture took that from her father. Offset's birth name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus.
Cardi's post came in a series of pregnant nude portraits she shared on Instagram since giving birth. Two images feature the chart-topper lounging against a backdrop of flowers, an apparent homage to Beyoncé's famous pregnancy announcement, while the third depicts her sprawled among pink ribbon.
The photos function as a well-earned victory lap for an artist who cemented her stardom while carrying a child. Over the past several months, Bardi dropped a No. 1 album and became the first female rapper with two No. 1 singles. Less than a week before Kulture's birth, Invasion of Privacy was certified platinum. Not a bad haul.
