The curious case of Cheeto began when a stray dog was spotted running through town with a Cheeto container stuck around his head. The container posed a serious threat to his health as it prevented him from eating or drinking properly.

A TRUE ESCAPE ARTIST

Determined to help, the residents of Port Lavaca launched a relentless pursuit. From foot patrols to car searches and even drone surveillance, the town rallied together to rescue the stray. Cheeto, however, proved to be a master escape artist, evading capture for days.

The community’s efforts were further fueled by the tragic backstory that Cheeto was once owned by a homeless man who recently passed away, leaving the dog to fend for himself.

After nearly four days of exhaustive searching, a breakthrough finally came through. A few men spotted Cheeto roaming around at Wells Fargo and jumped into action. The men moved in quickly and the dreaded container was successfully removed.

CHEETO STILL AT LARGE

Friday morning, one of the residents taking the lead in Cheeto's rescue, Angel Lopez confirmed that the container was removed but Cheeto still managed to escape back to the streets and is still at large and needs to be taken in for medical care.

Cheeto is with his siblings he sadly was never caught all day & night but eating normal and happy with his pet family they were litterally acting like pups and skipping together- Angel Lopez said in a Facebook post

Despite the ongoing chase, the community’s spirit remains unshaken. They’ve organized to support Cheeto with Cheeto-themed t-shirts, with all proceeds going towards his veterinary care.
