Stay Prepared as Temperatures Drop

With freezing weather expected next week, the City of Victoria urges residents to take precautions.

Pipe Protection Made Easy

Here’s how to protect your pipes without overloading the city’s water system:

  • Let the faucet furthest from your meter drip slowly. For apartment residents, only one faucet per unit should drip.
  • Cover outdoor faucets to prevent freezing.
  • Open cabinets to allow warm air to circulate around indoor pipes.
  • Keep your home warm.
  • Shut off sprinkler systems or irrigation lines.
  • If you experience a leak, call Public Works at 361-485-3380 for a meter shutoff—fees will be waived during this event.

Trash & Recycling: Delays Expected

Due to the freeze, trash, and recycling pickups for Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, may run late. Here's what you need to know:

  • Leave your carts on the curb all day; collections may extend into the night.
  • If your pickup is missed, leave the cart out—it will be collected the following day.
  • Monday, Jan. 20, pickups will proceed as scheduled.

Environmental Services will monitor conditions and update schedules if necessary. Stay informed via the City of Victoria Alert Center.

City Offices & Holiday Hours

City offices will remain open during the freeze, except for the previously scheduled Martin Luther King Jr. Day closure on Jan. 20. Offices will reopen on Jan. 21.
