Dakota Johnson and Ellen DeGeneres made headlines after the actress confronted the talk show host during a painfully awkward interview about a birthday party invitation.

When the Fifty Shades of Grey star visited The Ellen Show last week, DeGeneres decided to jokingly grill her over not being invited to her 30th birthday party in October. It was cringeworthy, to say the least, but also very impressive to see Johnson turn a genuinely awkward conversation into a comedic bit.

“Well, I didn’t even know you liked me,” Johnson joked.

“Of course I like you. You knew I liked you,” DeGeneres replied, followed by a few seconds of awkward silence. “You’ve been on the show many times, and don’t I show like?”

Johnson then told DeGeneres to ask her producers to confirm an invited did, in fact, come her way and they reminded her that she didn't go because she had been out of town. “Oh yeah I had that thing," the comedian said.
