Young Texas Officer Killed in a ‘Pure Evil’ Incident with Inmate
Ellis County is heartbroken after losing one of its own, Detention Officer Isaiah Bias. He was attacked by an inmate on Monday, December 16, and sadly, he didn't survive. Sheriff Brad Norman spoke about the tragedy in a press conference, calling it a "senseless and horrific" act.
The attack happened around 3:45 p.m. at the Ellis County Detention Center. The inmate, 45-year-old Arron Semeion Thompson from Ennis, Texas, attacked Bias during his one-hour break outside of his cell. Thompson had been in jail since November for 3 counts of assaulting a public servant and evading arrest.
Due to his crimes, Thompson was placed in a segregated area in a single cell for 23 hours a day. He was only allowed to be outside of his cell for 1 hour a day; that's when the incident occurred.
Jail staff and medical personnel tried to save Isaiah right away. EMS arrived quickly, but sadly, they couldn’t save him.
"It is with great sadness that we stand here today and acknowledge a loss of our own, Isaiah Bias," Sheriff Norman said. "Everyone who worked with him loved him. He was an amazing person." Isaiah had been part of the Explorer Program for two years before becoming a full-time detention officer. He loved his job and served his community proudly.
Sheriff Norman spoke honestly about the pain of this loss.
"Most of the time, officers deal with good people having a bad day. But sometimes, we deal with bad people."
Thompson has now been charged with capital murder, and his bond is set at $2 million.
The Ellis County community is grieving this loss, but they will always remember Isaiah Bias and the dedication he showed to keeping people safe.
