Gov Abbott Calls for the Resignation of Bexar County GOP Chair
Those moments when you can't believe what you just read.
In this case, this week's comments from Bexar County's GOP Chair take the cake. I'm still trying to figure out what is more surprising. Is it the comments she made, or am I more surprised that it wasn't flagged and taken down off social media before it started to take off?
Let's get to her point first, and that will probably make it easy to see why so many people have reacted by calling for her to step down. We have included the video of her statement above so you can hear her comments right from the source and make up your own mind. Bexar County Chair Cynthia Brehm gave the opinion that the death of George Floyd was part of an elaborate plot aimed at ramping up opposition to President Donald Trump. News outlets are reporting that Floyd passed away last week as a result of an officer kneeling on his neck for nine minutes. All 4 officers involved in the incident with Floyd have been charged in his death.
In a Facebook post that has since disappeared, Brehm explained her thoughts that the footage of Floyd's struggle with police was "filmed on purpose as a public execution for the purpose of creating racial tensions". To make it even worse she also said that Trump's "rising approval rating in the black community" was the reason that "an event like this was unfortunately predictable."
These comments come hot on the heels of another statement made last month by Brehm during which she reportedly said coronavirus was a hoax brought about by the Democratic party.
So far, Gov. Abbott, Senator John Cornyn, State Party Chair James Dickey, and US Senator Ted Cruz have all called for Brehm to step down.
The original post from Brehm's Facebook page was deleted but not before it was published by the San Antonio Express-News.
