Gymnast Katelyn Ohashi Gives Nod to Cardi B and Nicki Minaj During 2019 ESPY Awards Speech
During the 2019 ESPY Awards last night (July 10), Ohashi hit the stage to accept the award for Best Play. Back in January, the UCLA gymnast received a perfect 10 for her floor routine, which immediately went viral. At the awards show, Ohashi graciously accepted her trophy and recited a powerful poem that will resonate with women all around the world.
"The objectification of our bodies is making me sick, pitting women sports against each other acting as if they can't co-exist. It's like saying Chedda Da Connect can't go with flick of da wrist or what about Nicki Minaj or Cardi B? Two thriving females rappers everyone should see," Ohashi said in the poem speech.
While things between Cardi and Nicki have been quiet, they got pretty extreme last year as the two got into a heated altercation at 2018 New York Fashion Week last September. The exact starting point of their beef isn't known, but Nicki did say she wasn't cool with the way Cardi handled speculation about Nicki's verse on Migos' Cardi B and Nicki-assisted 2017 single "MotorSport."
For her part, Cardi B, who has hit up the summer festival circuit after dealing with the effects of some plastic surgery, admitted that she believes the entire feud was bad for business, but this past April, she laughed at the idea of collaborating with Nicki again. Nicki, whose fans are hoping has a tour coming up soon, hasn't spoken on Cardi in a long time.
