It is time we officially add the names Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly to the hallowed list of the Comedy Team Hall of Fame, alongside the greats like Laurel and Hardy and Abbott and Costello.  Any Ferrell/Reilly pairing is a cause for celebration. We still haven’t gotten a Step Brothers 2, but I suppose Holmes & Watson is the next best thing, with Ferrell as Sherlock and Reilly as his lovable sidekick — and both appearing extremely stupid.

Sadly, their usual partner in hijinks, Adam McKay, isn’t directing (he was off making his movie about Dick Cheney). Instead Etan Cohen directed from his own screenplay, and Cohen’s filmography does not entirely fill one with confidence: There’s Tropic Thunder (yay!) but there’s also Get Hard (noooooo). Still, the premise is perfect, and the rest of the cast is awesome: Rebecca Hall, Kelly Macdonald, Hugh Laurie, Rob Brydon, Ralph Fiennes as Moriarty and — best of all — WWE Superstar Braun Strowman. I hope he gets to speak his lines with a British accent. I would like to see that very much.

Here’s the film official synopsis:

A humorous take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic mysteries featuring Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson.

I’m fully onboard with Ferrell and Reilly leaning into being the dumbest detectives who ever lived. It is my sincere request that this movie contains no s—, along with Sherlock. It opens in theaters this Christmas.
