Criminally Insane Man Has Escaped From a Texas State Hospital
Back in 2013, Alexander Ervin dodged a murder sentence by pleading insanity. When a person pleads insanity it is up to their team to prove their mental illness prevented them from knowing right from wrong at the time of the offense.
MURDERING AN 'IMPOSTER'
In Ervin's case he was accused of murdering his 58-year-old father, Ray Scott Ervin; claiming he was a CIA agent on a mission to kill the pedophile who was an imposter posing as his father.
THE BROTHERS ACCOUNT
During the trial, his brother Maxwell Ervin detailed the attack. According to Maxwell, his brother attacked their father with a pipe wrench and a 3-4-inch folding knife.
LOCKDOWN AT TEXAS HOSPITAL
Fast forward 9 years, Ervin, now 29 years old is a patient/inmate at Vernon Campus of the North Texas State Hospital. However, Monday, June 27 the hospital and several facilities nearby have gone on lockdown.
Ervin escaped and has yet to be accounted for. Authorities said he is about 5-feet-8-inches tall, bald with a mustache. According to authorities, he was last seen in a grey hoodie, tan pants, and a white shirt.
Emergency personnel said Ervin has been known to make weapons and has ties to the Austin area.
THE END OF THE TRIAL
After Ervin was sentenced, his attorney admitted, “Nobody wins in a case like this,” she said. “Fortunately, Lex is going to finally get the help that he needs, but it was at the cost of the death of his father. Ultimately, I truly believe this is what Ray Scott Ervin would have wanted.”
