I've always heard it said that "teaching is one of the most challenging professions," and it’s easy to see why. Across Texas, teachers are not only overworked but significantly underpaid for the dedication and hours they commit to shaping the minds of our future.

On average, Texas teachers clock over 54.7 hours a week, more than in many other states. Yet, despite their grueling schedule, the average Texas teacher earns just over $58,000 a year, which is far below the $71,690 many Texans believe Texas teachers should be paid.

This eye-opening information comes from a new survey just compiled by Twinkl.com, which analyzed common misconceptions about teaching by polling more than 2,400 Americans. The information gathered in the survey paints a sobering picture of the state of education. Texas ranks as number one of the top states where teachers are significantly overworked.

The reality is that public perception is staggering, residents believe teachers work an average of 40.2 hours per week, but that is farther from the truth when in reality, Texas Teachers put in just over 54.7 hours PER WEEK!

This issue isn’t exclusive to Texas. The survey highlights similar trends across other states like Colorado, Arizona, and Arkansas just to name a few. While most of us believe that teachers should be making around $73,105 annually, the national average is right at $62,756 annually.

For so many years, I have had the privilege of being part of the "Arrow Ford Teacher Tribute" program alongside our KTXS TV, Exceptional Brands, and Communities In Schools friends. We recognize educators who have made an exceptional impact on a student's life.

Teachers put their all into teaching our children or as I like to refer to the students as the "Future of America." Sadly their work often goes unrecognized. Yet, their influence can be life-changing for students, and we must honor these unsung heroes.

We must continue to push for better pay and working hours. Most importantly, we should step up as parents to support both our teachers and our children.

With teaching being so undervalued yet incredibly essential, we have to speak up for the people responsible for our children's futures. It’s time we reward these heroes not just with our words, but with actions that reflect their importance to society.
