It Has Been 27 Years Since the Flood of 1998 in South Texas
It has been 27 years since the flood of '98. October 20, 2025, marked the anniversary of the flood that took many of us by surprise.
If you remember back, 30-plus inches of rain fell upriver in San Marcos and New Braunfels, which caused the Guadalupe River to crest at a historic high that has not been seen since. Those flood waters had me carrying my stove across a flooded Water St. in 1998.
Record flooding for Guadalupe in Victoria and Cuero.
In Victoria ,the Guadalupe crested in Victoria at 33.85 feet at 2 p.m. that Tuesday afternoon, October 20, 1998. The flood stage is 21 feet. While those numbers were high, Cuero had it much worse.
The Guadalupe River in Cuero crested at 49.8 feet; the flood stage is 20 feet. Who remembers the video of the cow on top of the house? Take a look at some of the photos from the flood of '98 below.

Hurricane Harvey also caused major damage in Victoria.
@gabstar427#hurricaneharvey August 2017 my hometown and surrounding areas were hit by Hurricane Harvey. This is a collection of pictures taken by my friends and family members who stayed and didn't evacuate and posted them to snapchat and some I took when I came back to town with my cat and my inherited dog who was my grandma's but she had been sick before we left and purposefully left her medication at home so she wouldn't have to take it and was taken my ambulance from the hotel we stayed at. I kept her dog and loved him for five years until he passed away from a heart condition. needless to say the devastation will never be forgotten and we all lost tremendously. my grandma was never well enough to leave the nursing home she was placed in during the evacuation and ended up passing away some months later at a hospital halfway between there and home. I did get to say my last goodbyes and I would've had more time with her if not for Harvey but I'm thankful for having that at least #hurricane#evacuation#hurricaneaftermath#destruction#texas#texasstrong#texanshelpingtexans#mydogstory#mydog#mygrandma#stayingalive#stayingsafe#MyDolceMoment♬ cardigan stems - afterglow audios
