$20 Million Texas Lottery Winner Almost Threw Their Ticket Away

Another big lottery winner in the state of Texas! The latest winner is from Leander and was about to throw his ticket away. As he pulled the ticket out of his wallet, he checked the numbers and got the surprise of a lifetime! He had matched all the numbers for the Powerball $20 million drawing on May 2.

“I’m not a regular lottery player, but I saw on a billboard that there had recently been a big jackpot, so the next morning when I stopped in at QuikTrip for a coffee, I bought a Powerball ticket,”  According to a press release from the Texas Lottery.  “A few days later we were out running errands when I noticed the ticket in my wallet and I thought to myself, ‘I need to check that so I can toss it’. Only, this time when I checked it, I saw that I’d won. I was stunned. When my [spouse] returned to the car [they] asked me, ‘Are you okay?’ and I told [them], ‘I think we’ve won the lottery.’”

He was correct! The winning ticket was sold at a Quick Trip in Leander, Texas. The winning store will also have a chance to cash in on a $250,000 retailer bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.

The winners have decided to hold on to the money until it is needed or can figure out what they want to do with it. What a nice luxury to have. Congrats to the new millionaire in Texas.
