Congrats to Audrey Hogan, our Athlete and Scholar of the Week

"As a high school senior, earning my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license is going to be one of my biggest accomplishments. The process is challenging, but it is teaching me valuable lessons about responsibility, hard work, and the healthcare field.

 The journey to becoming a CNA started with enrolling in a program through my high school. The course is a combination of classroom learning and hands-on training, which will give me the chance to learn important healthcare concepts like patient care, basic anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control. The most valuable part of the program is the clinical training, where I have the opportunity to work directly with patients in real healthcare settings. This allows me to practice skills like taking vital signs, assisting patients with mobility, and helping with daily activities. The education I receive not only is preparing me for the CNA exam but also is giving me a solid foundation for any future career in healthcare.

 Like many big achievements, becoming a CNA hasn't come without its challenges. Balancing my high school coursework with the CNA program is difficult at times. There are days when I have to juggle homework, study for exams, and keep up with clinical hours. Staying organized and managing my time becomes essential. Another challenge is preparing for the state certification exam. The exam has both a written portion and a skills test, and I am nervous about performing under pressure. To overcome this, I study with classmates and reviewed the skills we have practiced. In the end, those extra study sessions will pay off when I passed the exam and earned my certification.

 Through the CNA program, I am gaining a variety of skills that will help me in both my future career and in everyday life. I learned how to take and record vital signs, assist patients with mobility, and provide compassionate care. I am also gaining experience in communicating effectively with patients and healthcare professionals, which is an important skill in any job. Most importantly, I am learning about the importance of patient safety, ethical care, and professionalism. These skills and lessons will be invaluable as I continue my education and move forward into a healthcare career or any other path I choose.

 Earning my CNA license is a significant milestone in my high school career and has opened my eyes to the possibilities in the healthcare field. The experience has taught me about responsibility, resilience, and the importance of helping others. As I graduate and look ahead to college and my future, I feel confident knowing that I’ve gained skills that will serve me no matter what career I choose. Becoming a CNA is just the beginning, and I’m excited to continue growing and learning as I move forward in life."
